Who is/are Midac?

Midac is a family owned research and development business started over 40 years ago. Midac was based in Dungog from 1996 to 2012.

Midac was established in 1981 and stood for microprocessor intelligent data acquisition and control. Midac pioneered early distributed intelligence direct digital control energy management systems. The first distributed network DDC system was developed by MIDAC and installed at the University of Melbourne in 1982. More Information.

Midac’s research and development activities include YesBookit the first online holiday rentals booking and management system for real estate agents. The technology took holiday rentals in to the now default realm of online bookings.

  • 1981 Developed microprocessor based building automation (DDC) energy management system
  • 1983 – 1987 Developed next generation of distributed DDC system using STD Bus for remotes
  • 1988 -1989 Designed and released Australia’s first Home Automation technology
  • 1988 – Setup manufacturing of X10 power line carrier product range for Australian market
  • 1990 – 1992 Developed Nexus – AI DDC system modeled on the human body
  • 1994 – Commenced developing online solutions for online business and commerce
  • 1994 – 1998 Brought many entities online for first time including major corporates like JH and Boral
  • 1995 Implemented first WWW based political “Vote” invented term CyberVote
  • 1995 Pioneered early Business Gateway sites in Australia
  • 1998 Developed multiple business eCommerce gateway technology using SaaS approach
  • 2005 Developed YesBookit – first SaaS booking/management system for holiday rentals agents
  • 2012 Midac sold YesBookit to Fairfax Media – Stayz – 29/10/2012.
  • 2014 Fairfax sells Stayz and YesBookit to Home Away Texas based online holiday rentals business
  • 2015 YesBookit purchased by Expedia

Midac Online Developments

KJ-B: “Although I have written a great deal of z80 assembler code in the early 80s from the mid 80s I wrote mostly in C, After 1992 when the www went live, I started to use HTML and its associated languages. CyberVote was my first Perl project. I went on to develop, NetResults, GatewayEngine, InterShop and YesBookit mostly in Perl.”

Midac started bringing businesses online in 1994 just after the www went live in 1992. As such Midac was one of the first web developers. Midac’s first business sites brought James Hardie online for the first time, Later followed by Boral then many many more.

Midac deveoped the early real estate and travel sites. KJB: “I could see how the travel and real estate sectors could benefit from the Internet, and focused on convincing those business and entities to go online for the first time.”

Midac bought Hunter Region and North Coast NSW businesses online for the first time. Midac brought these locations online for the first time
