Agricultural Diversity
Throughout Dungog shire, people are changing the face of agriculture…and succeeding. From olives to grapes, deer farms to organic beef cattle, and farm forestry to lavender harvesting, farmers in this area are moving with the times.
Nearby, the C.B. Alexander agricultural college provides tertiary courses in a vast array of agricultural subjects. The college is also the site of the Tocal Field Days, a major annual agricultural event.
With an average annual rainfall over 1,000 millimetres, the area experiences cool to mild and sunny winters with summers being warm to hot and occasionally humid.
With over 250 beef and dairy cattle farms in the region, this traditional agricultural base still maintains a successful and stable foundation for value adding in the area. This industry is the shire's largest employment sector.
“The beautiful rolling to ridgy countryside of the shire seemed rich with rural diversity and intensive farming opportunities. I see endless potential for investment in rural diversity, tourism, manufacturing and service industries. We saw it, we bought it, we love it !”
Tom and Terese Smith, 'Bingleburra‘ cattle property and vineyard.
