Services
Dungog Shire offers prospective residents and investors all the conveniences of a bigger centre combined with a quality of life not easily found today.

With a steadily growing population of around 8,000 people, the Shire supports a thriving commercial community including supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes, craft stores, hotels, rural supplies, hospital and ambulance service, nursing home, hardware and the latest computer equipment.

Being on the main north-south rail line, Dungog and the neighbouring villages of Paterson and Martin's Creek offer local rail services daily to Maitland, Newcastle and Sydney for commuters and shoppers, as well as XPT services 6 times a day. Two freight companies operate in Dungog and provide an overnight service to and from the major centres, with Newcastle airport just an hour's drive away.

While unemployment is below the Hunter average at 10.5%, prospective employers will find numerous workers here, with a large proportion of trade qualified and unskilled people.

Working closely with Council is the Industry & Services Committee, a group assisting the expansion of existing businesses and the attraction of appropriate business development. The group can provide confidential hands-on assistance combined with expert local knowledge and access to government business incentives and support services.

“Our business has boomed since relocating to Dungog four and a half years ago. This area is not only a great place to live but also a great place to do business. We have customers all over Australia and this area offers all the necessary services to allow us to meet their needs everytime.”
